There are several purpose built overlooks within Wascana Centre.
The two oldest are the Willow Island Overlook and the overlook located
west of Wascana Hill.
Both are very similar in design and purpose. Not only serving as an overlook
but also as a irrigation
pump station. Pumping water directly from the lake.
The only design difference is the boat landing at the bottom of the Willow Island Overlook. There is
no boat landing at the other one.
An interesting aspect of both overlooks is the "echo plate" on the top section.
While actually a drain and air vent, if one stands on the plate and speaks directly forward
a private echo can be heard. The voice will sound normal to someone
standing only a few feet away.
Trafalgar Overlook is located west of Wascana Place
and is named because it overlooks Trafalgar Fountain.
The adjacent construction of Trafalgar Pond in 2001 added not only a new view, but also a new
look to the overlook.
The Cityscape Overlook was opened on November 30, 2005.
The Goose Island Overlook is located near Candy Cane Park.
It was constructed a few years ago (1999?) to replace the previous two level overlook.
The Spruce Island Overlook was opened in the fall of 2001.
The Wascana Lake Overlook on Pine Island.
In addition to the official overlooks, there are several "unofficial" overlooks.
These include Wascana Hill .
There is also an observation deck at Wascana Place, beside the joe moran Art Gallery.
The numerous buildings surrounding and within Wascana Centre also provide a overlooking view of the park.
At one time people were permited to goto the top of the Provincial Legislative building.
This opportunity was closed several years ago for "safety reasons".
The buildings at the University of Regina, such as the Archer Library, can be
used as an interior overlook.
